CES is supposed to be highlighted by TVs, audio products and other smart home appliances and products. Little did we know that Asus would overshadow all other appliances by announcing the world’s first 8GB RAM phone with killer flagship specs. Asus has been struggling for a while in the smartphone business just like Sony but they are headstrong in their approach. Asus has launched the Asus ZenFone AR.

Specs

When writing the specs we know we will tire our fingers writing them down since the list doesn’t stop. This is no ordinary phone. Asus ZenFone AR is Tango and Daydream-ready.  It is the first phone in the world to come with 8GB RAM. That is right fans, this phone comes with enormous amount of RAM which will basically make other phones feel inefficient when it would come to multitasking. Tango is Google’s augmented reality program whereas Daydream is virtual reality. Combine these both and you have a phone of the future. The ZenFone AR has a fingerprint sensor at the front integrated in the home button. The phone carries a 5.7 inch Super AMOLED QHD display (2560×1440). The phone comes with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 821 processor. This makes it seem dated as now we were really hoping the phone to carry the just announced Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor. The phone has a 79.5 percent body-to-screen ratio.

The Asus ZenFone AR has vapor cooling system which helps it prevent from overheating. The phone has a 23 MP snapper at the back which is the Sony IMX318. The camera has TriTech+ autofocus, dual-PDAF, 2nd gen laser focus and continuous focus. Rear camera sports 4-aixs OIS and 3-aixs EIS that would also work in recording 4K videos. The front camera is an 8 MP snapper. The battery of the phone is 3300mAh. The phone would be launched in 128GB and 256GB variants. Pricing is yet to be announced.

Verdict

The phone is nice, powerful and is the best all-rounder until a smartphone with Snapdragon 835 is announced next month in MWC 2017. We will see a lot of competition in MWC among phones but the ZenFone AR is still going to be one hell of a contender even then. Let us know what do you think in the comments section below. If you still want a good Asus phone you can go with ZenFone 3 at a very reasonable price.
