Essential | Android’s Creator Creates iPhone Killer

Andy Rubin just dropped the E bomb on mobile industry. In case you were living under a rock, Andy Rubin is the creator of the world’s most used mobile platform which is our beloved Android. Rumors were there that Andy had been cooking something Essential in his lab and now after a lot of teasers and speculations, we finally get to see it in the wild. Essential is one of the most anticipated phone and all tech gurus are drooling over it.

The connection of Andy with mobiles is unquestionable but as far as producing a phone is concerned, we have yet to see him make his mark. Off to a remarkable start, Essential has all the ingredients to beat most of the flagships of 2017. Essential one ups Samsung’s Galaxy S8 by wrapping the screen around the selfie camera. The edge-to-edge display is mesmerizing in its true nature. There is a little bezel right at the bottom but the whole thing seems so complete.

Essential sports a 5.71 inch screen at QHD which makes the screen crisp and sharp. Essential carries the beast processor which is Snapdragon 835, along with 4GB of RAM and 128GB internal storage. This is the first time that, we as reviewers have been happy hearing about the internal memory being 128GB as standard. There are no logos on the phone and it just feels so well made due to its titanium and ceramic body. So even if it slips out of your hand, you shouldn’t be that much worried. At the back there are two dual cameras of 13MP. They do not work as telephoto lenses but they work just like Huawie’s Leica cameras. One camera will snap monochrome shot and mix it with the color shot taken by the second camera, this will in turn produce very good contrast for the pictures. The front facing camera is 8MP and has the ability to record 4K video. The phone is powered by a 3040mAh battery which will be enough to last a whole day. There is no 3.5mm headphone jack though, which is a bummer as we were expecting an all-rounder in every aspect.

The phone is modular which means that there will be accessories that you will be able to use along with the phone. The phone will come with a 360 camera included in the box. The camera will stick with the pogo pins next to the camera.

We are about to see a whole lot more accessories once the idea of modular accessories takes off. Essential will also ship with a 3.5mm dongle in the box so that you can use your current headphones with ease.

As for the screen wrapping around the selfie camera is concerned, you don’t need to worry about that, since the upper portion of the screen is used for status icons. We really find the phone astonishing and it seems like a sight to behold. You can get your hands on one of them for $699. That is an ambitious price tag but so is the phone. Let us know in the comments section below of what you think about the latest and greatest flagship by the very creator of Android.
