Microsoft Just Scratched The Tech Industry’s Surface

Apple Macs have come a long way to lead the pact as the best laptop ever. Many other brands tried to beat Apple at its own game but none of them posed as big of a threat as the new Microsoft Surface. The new Microsoft Surface is here to take MacBooks to the cleaners. This is the first time that Microsoft has produced a real laptop under the name of surface. It doesn’t have a detachable dock this time around but a fixed screen like normal laptops. The screen is touch although, so it can still be used in tablet mode of Windows 10.

The new Surface laptop has a 13.5 inches screen with PixelSense display with 3:2 aspect ratio and a resolution of 2,256 x 1,504px. The screen looks simply brilliant. It is very bright and crisp right in the league of MacBooks. Surface still supports the Surface Pen and you can make those crazy designs but now since the screen cannot be detached, we see that it will be difficult to work with full agility and freedom. Microsoft claims this is the slimmest touchscreen panel ever to be put on a laptop.

The new Surface is lighter than the MacBook Air and gives around 14 hours of battery in real time which is two more hours than the MacBook. Keyboard is made in a special way that every key has 1.5mm of travel which is the next best thing to a mechanical keyboard with chunky keys. Keys of the keyboard are covered in a special fabric alcantara. Keyboard is backlit and we couldn’t be happier.

There are two versions of the new Surface laptop. First one is Core i5 (7200U), 128GB SSD, 4GB RAM and this is going to set you back $999. The second configuration that you can opt for is Core i7, 16GB RAM and 512 SSD. The latter configuration has a very steep price tag of $2,200. Surface accommodates a USB 3.0 port but not USB Type-C port.

Surface weighs only 1.25kg (2.76lbs). This is the lightest touchscreen laptop ever made in the world. We really have high hopes from Microsoft. This is a step in the right direction and things are going to improve from there on. It is safe to say Microsoft has nailed it this time.
