Sony has just made CES 2018 more interesting. They have launched three new devices which carry the same Sony design language but in slightly more beautiful packages. Xperia XA2, Xperia XA 2Ultra and Xperia L2 have made their debuts.
Sony has changed its smartphone strategy completely now. Xperia XA2 comes with welcome changes. The screen is now bigger and better. It is now 5.2 inches compared to its previous model supporting 5.0 inches. The new screen is FullHD. The processor has also been upgraded and this time the consumers get 14nm based Snapdragon 630. The battery gets the biggest upgrade with capacity of 3,300mAh compared to previous 2,300mAh. There is a fingerprint reader on the back of the phone. This time the fingerprint is available to US consumers too. Xperia XA2 has an ultra-wide selfie snapper. The rear camera also gets upgraded to a 23MP unit. This is the same as Xperia flagships. The phone has 32GB internal storage with 3GB RAM.
Xperia XA2 Ultra doesn’t have a bigger display but it really doesn’t need one. It is a massive 6 inch screen. The panel is FullHD which is quite bright at 500 nits. There is more RAM for Ultra (4GB vs 3GB). The rear camera is 23MP with OIS while the front facing selfie cameras are 16MP and 8MP. There is also front facing flash on board. The battery is also bumped up to 3,580mAh compared to the previous model which had 2,700mAh capacity.
The Xperia L2 has humble specs but not as an entry model. It is quite a bargain. Every Xperia now comes with a fingerprint reader. The L2 has a 5.5 inch display with 720p resolution. The rear camera is of 13MP resolution and the front camera is of 8MP resolution. The chipset is Mediatek MT6737T: quad-core 1.45GHz Cortex-A53 CPU, dual-core Mali-T720 GPU. The processor is supported by 3GB of RAM; 32GB storage; it also has a dedicated microSD slot for expansion.
Sony has started off the new year with a bang and we might see it finally penetrate more countries. It has long been wish of tech savvy people around the world to see competitive Sony handsets and this year seems to be really compelling for Sony.
